The number one thing I have always been able to rely on when writing a first draft is the fact that in almost every situation, it didn’t really matter as in content. And I knew that I would be changing practically half of the paper. Lamott has been able to reiterate and back up my thoughts as she says “In fact, the only way I can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first drafts.”. So when you have something you may consider a “Shitty First Draft” workshopping becomes ever so important. Having your peers go over and help make suggestions is a great way to improve a paper, but unfortunately many times the problem is people do not do it correctly. Instead of the dissection a person's first draft critically and correctly they will only mark a few things and claim that it is a good attempt and going in the right direction in order to avoid hurting feelings. When in the reality of a first draft, there is almost always something that needs to be fixed, changed, rewritten, removed, and added. I think that reading this chapter it gives an insight into that and can help positively influence people's work shopping attitudes.
